'Stories from The Hull Blitz' documents the bombing of the city in World War Two. Hepcatproductions wanted to record the experiences of eyewitnesses to a subject that at that time had been largely ignored.
Trying to keep order was some times reminiscent of a 'Carry on' film, but we managed to keep these loveable contributors still, long enough for them to regale us with their re-collections. Reaching out to Tom Courtenay for a narration, he responded personally and was rewarded with tea and biscuits.
Local Arts administrators were given a copy of the finished film on dvd but could not understand why we would expect them to be interested in it(?). We had wrongly assumed that a documentary involving local people, made by local people about a subject of historical importance would be of interest to them. A leading representative of the City of Culture was initially keen but with the dvd in their possession was apparently unable to find any suitable device with which to watch it.
The complete documentary can be viewed on YouTube.
